Costa Tambo
For eight years, Costa Tambo has been sharing the good news about Jesus in a small village in Mozambique.
This southern African country has a population of some 19 million people. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is growing in Mozambique. Today there are some 200,000 Adventists. But the church faces a tremendous challenge. Adventists make up less than 2 percent of the country’s population.
As Tambo walks the roads today, he remembers those early days. When he first arrived, Tambo tried to meet with the village chief. But the chief refused to see him.
So Tambo called on the railroad stationmaster. But the stationmaster was busy and he sent Tambo to talk with his wife. Before long the stationmaster’s wife was inviting her friends to join the Bible study group.
From those small beginnings, 120 members now worship each Sabbath in a small mud-brick church. They have started building a new church made of concrete.
